Travel And Diving Experiences – Care For Maldives Seas

The Underwater-world:
The Maldives is a very unique place on earth. During Holidays in Maldives, you may be staying on an island formed by coral. There wouldn’t be any islands, id it wasn’t for the coral. That is why we have to protect the coral. You think you saw a stone in the water? No you did not! It is a living coral. What you see is a limestone product, which has been built over thousands of years by millions of polyps. These polyps are so small that you cannot see them. When you touch a coral, you ruin these polyps.

The coral reef is, after the rainforest, the most complex ecological system on earth. More than 100.000 species exist here. Coral is the centre of this ecosystem. Therefore: Do not touch the coral!

To enable easy access to the reef for diving and snorkeling, every island has especially created marked entrances. Please use these entrances, do not walk over the coral and bear the change of the tide in mind on your snorkeling trips. Seek more details at the dive base. If you swim over the reef at high tide, your way could be barred at low tide. So, never walk on the top of the reef!

The coral gardens of the Maldives are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the world. It is hard to imagine the complexity of this ecosystem. Every living creature has its place, except for the human being. So: please behave like a visitor in this fascinating underwater world. Do not touch anything! Admire the living space of the animals and enjoy as a guest the astonishing variety of species. And do not disturb any of them!

Here are some popular resorts for diving and snorkeling in the beautiful water of the Maldives.

Divers and Snorkellers – Protect the Underwater World!
Divers and Snorkellers: The divers and snorkellers should always be a role model. We have the greatest interest in the conservation of the underwater world. We behave accordingly: we only touch with our eyes. Even when we take videos or photographs we do not touch anything, nor do we upset any living creature. We always behave as guests when underwater.

We observe the movement of our flippers and we stabilize ourselves perfectly. Our equipment too, here in Kandooma Resort, is always clean, so that small parts cannot cause unintentional damage. Our code teaches us to protect this paradise and to inform others of our rules of conduct. So a diver or snorkeller should always be a model!

One Very Desired Divers Spot:
Summer Island Village is named after the Kandoo tree which is found in abundance on the island. This tropical island is favored because of its close proximity to many excellent dive sites. The Kandooma Channel and Kandooma Caves and Kandooma “thila” (an undersea mount) all donate to making this area one of the Republic’s most desired destinations for divers.

For the non-divers, the nearby clear water offers areas to swim and snorkel. Passionate surfers will be thrilled with the reef breaks on the north east side of the island from the swell that comes in off the ocean.

Everything you need for Diving and Snorkeling:
The Rannalhi Dive Shop and Diving School has everything you need for diving and snorkeling adventures. Plus, our Water Sports Centre offers you the opportunity to enjoy catamaran, canoe and banana-boat rides, windsurfing and water skiing. There is really no limit to the water sports you can enjoy at Rannalhi Island Maldives.

For the avid diver, Rannalhi offers boat diving and house-reef diving courses leading to PADI certification in English, French, German, Italian and Russian.

Maldives – A Rare Underwater Beauty

The Maldives is famed for its rare underwater beauty. The profusion of psychedelic colors and the abundance and diversity of life underwater have captivated divers and snorkelers since Maldives was exposed as a diving location. Sometimes exceeding 50 meters, the highest level of visibility that one could expect and the warm temperatures throughout the year makes diving in the Maldives a delight you would want to experience over and over again. The Maldives has some of the best dive sites in the world and many visit the Maldives repeatedly for the sole purpose of diving.

Therefore some of the popular dive spots available throughout the Maldives during Maldives Holidays for individuals and groups are listed below.

Victory (Ship Wreck) – Wreck of the Maldives: In the early morning hours of 13 February 1981, a Friday this 35,000-ton freighter ran onto the southern tip of the airport island near the capital – Hulhule. Panic spread through the island when everyone realized that the long-awaited foodstuffs and building materials were lying at the bottom of the ocean.

Banana Reef: Stretching from North-East to South over a length of some three hundred meters is this reef which is shaped like a banana. Close by resort islands include Fullmoon Island, Club Med and Kurumba. Ever since scuba divers started to dive in this part of the North-Male’ Atoll, twenty years ago, Banana Reef has remained an ideal spot. A favorable feature is that since the fish have absolutely no fear of photographers on this reef, one can take excellent shots. However, together with the powerful current and the fragile reef it makes anchoring your boat not always an easy task. You are advised to be careful not to harm the fragile reef when anchoring your boat.

Shark Point: As the name implies, meeting and observing sharks at this point is a frequent and normal happening. They swim to and from at the end of the channel where the currents are strongest. Friendly Gray reef sharks and white-tip reef sharks are those most likely to approach the divers at the shark point. Therefore it is totally worth trying it during your Vacations in the Maldives.

Barracuda Giri: Barracuda Giri is placed in the North Male’ Atoll, North – Northeast of Bandos Island Resort and South – Southeast of Thulhagiri Island. Barracuda Giri boasts some truly amazing dives. Life forms consist of large schools of black spotted sweetlips, schools of large batfish, black coral, barracuda and several others.

Manta Point: Manta Point, which is placed in the northern area of the channel leading out of the Ari Atoll, is – as the name suggests – a perfect place for close encounters with Mantas Rays. From December until the middle of April, the Mantas are common at this site, the landscape and the setting of the site making it a perfect habitat for all species of fish that live on plankton.
